Get rid of stubborn fat.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove stubborn fat from unwanted areas that may not be responding to traditional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise. The procedure uses a suction technique to eliminate fat from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck.

Is liposuction right for you?

You might be a candidate for liposuction if you have too much fat in certain areas of the body. It’s important to know that Liposuction is not a weight-loss alternative. It’s a surgical procedure to help eliminate stubborn areas of fat deposits to shape and contour problem areas that have not responded to diet and exercise alone. Liposuction is not recommended for those who suffer from restricted blood flow, active coronary artery disease, uncontrolled diabetes and / or a weak immune system.

How it’s done

Prior to scheduling a surgery date, Dr. Hiers will meet with a patient for a customized consultation to discuss problem areas, procedure details and realistic outcomes. Before the surgery begins, Dr. Hiers may draw marks on the areas of the body to be treated. Tumescent liposuction is the most common technique. Dr. Hiers uses tumescent liposuction, and injects a sterile solution with numbing fluid into the area of the body to be treated, causing the area to swell. Dr. Hiers then makes small incisions into the skin and places a thin tube called a cannula under the skin. A vacuum connected to the cannula suctions out the excess fat and fluids from the specific area. The procedure may last a couple of hours, depending on the amount of fat being removed.

Results

After the procedure, some bruising and swelling is normal. Patients may return to fairly normal activities within a few days to a week. Patients wear compression garments to assist with minimizing swelling. Once swelling subsides, typically after a few weeks, results are evident, with full results becoming apparent in just a few months. If patients commit to a healthy lifestyle and weight management, liposuction results are generally long-lasting.

Benefits
