Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the United States. Augmentation of the breasts can be achieved using either silicone or saline implants to increase the fullness and shape of the bust. Women choose breast augmentation for many reasons, whether simply to help restore a more youthful, fuller bust or to help bring the breasts into better proportion with the rest of the body. At Dr. Connie Hiers Plastic Surgery we have more than 30 years of experience in cosmetic surgery, specializing in breast augmentation.

BREAST AUGMENTATION STEPS

Breast augmentation surgery typically takes one hour to complete and is performed in a surgery center for your comfort and safety.

  1. Anesthesia: You will receive general anesthesia, meaning you will be completely asleep and feel no pain during surgery.
  2. Incision: First, your cosmetic surgeon will make an incision in the tissue of your breasts. The breast implant will be placed through this incision.
  3. Placement: Your chosen breast implant is placed either behind the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle. You will choose your desired placement before surgery with the help of your cosmetic surgeon.
  4. Closure: The incisions are closed using sutures, surgical tape, or skin adhesive to hold the edges closed while they heal.

Dr. Connie Hiers Plastic Surgery & Med Spa uses one of two incision types during breast augmentation: an incision made under the crease of the breast or an incision made around the areola. In most cases, the breast implant you want to use will dictate the best incision type. Your cosmetic surgeon will explain the differences between the two incisions and make a recommendation.

Both saline and silicone breast implants are safe and effective. The best type of implant for you will depend upon factors such as your age, the type of augmentation you want, and your personal preferences.
